Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opt to bowl. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad missed his second IPL ton by just two runs while Daryl Mitchell scored a fine half-century as five-time champions Chennai Super Kings scored 212 for 3 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ajinkya Rahane (9) early was a big setback but Gaikwad (98 off 54 balls) carried out the repair work in right earnest with New Zealander Mitchell, who scored 52 off 32 deliveries.

In the chase Deshpande took the wickets of opener Travis Head (13) and Anmolpreet Singh (0) in his first over before getting rid of Abhishek Sharma (15) and captain Pat Cummins (5), while Pathirana got the dangerous Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen to demolish SRH.

SRH are struggling for a stronghold at the crease, as they only manage 53 runs from the powerplay. Both Nitish Kumar Reddy and Aiden Markram are not looking to take any risks after the early loss of wickets, but will need to go for some big hits to avoid the late pressure in the run chase.

Defending champions CSK have climbed to the third spot on the IPL 2024 points table. SRH are placed fourth in the IPL 2024 standings.
