India are on the backfoot in the Third Test at 25 for 1 after England’s declaration of its first innings at 569 for 7. Shikhar Dhawan failed yet again in the series and was once again out to James Anderson. The left-hander was caught at first slip after poking an Anderson away going delivery on the backfoot.

The visitors batted out 14 overs before stumps and have got Murali Vijay on 11* along with Cheteshwar Pujara who is on 4*.

Earlier, England wrapped up their innings once debutant Jos Buttler got out on 85 which came in just 83 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Prior to that Ian Bell was dismissed for 167 when he tried to loft Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bell faced 256 balls while striking 19 fours and 3 sixes.

Update at Tea on Day 2: Ian Bell registered his 21st Test century as England marched to 452 for 5 at Tea time on Day 2. The hosts added 96 runs in the afternoon session while losing a couple of wickets in the 26 overs bowled.

Ian Bell has moved on to 133 from 216 balls with 16 fours and 3 sixes. At the other end is debutant Jos Buttler who is on 13* after being given not out when Rahane had claimed a low slip catch off Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The two wickets that fell of Joe Root and Moeen Ali were taken by Bhuvneshar. Root scored only 3 before he was caught behind poking at an outswinger while Moeen Ali (12) was brilliantly caught by a diving Rahane in the slips off a bottom edged pull shot.

The weather has become very cloudy at Southampton and there is a possibility of a shower in the final session.

Update at Lunch on Day 2: England continued their domination in the 3rd Test at Southampton by stretching their total to 358 for 3. The hosts have scored 111 runs in 29 overs this morning session at the loss of Gary Ballance.

The Indian bowlers are struggling to contain the runs and to take wickets on what is really a placid pitch. However, the odd ball has turned and bounce and that is what got Rohit Sharma his maiden Test wicket. Gary Ballance was wrongly given caught behind when he was squared up on the backfoot and beaten by the turn and bounce from Rohit. Balance finished with a career best of 156 (from 288 balls with 24 fours). His partnership with Ian Bell was 142 runs for the 3rd wicket.

By lunch, Ian Bell has eased to 68 not out from 132 balls with 10 fours and a six. Joe Root has just joined him and is batting on 2.
