Opener Shaun Marsh tested his back successfully ahead of the Boxing Day Test match by scoring a superb 99* to ease Perth Scorchers to an 8-wicket win in their Big Bash League Contest against hosts Melbourne Renegades. Marsh who played this match to prove his fitness got his runs in 52 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes. His fellow opener - South African Herschelle Gibbs was devastating too scoring 57 from 36 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes to lay the perfect foundation with Marsh to chase a high target of 189 which was done with four balls to spare.
Earlier, Melbourne Renegades batting first after winning the toss, posted an impressive total of 188 for 3 at the indoor Etihad Stadium (Docklands) in Melbourne. Skipper Andrew McDonald who opened the batting was the top scorer with 50 from 33 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. The other opener Aaron Finch scored 49 in 40 balls with 5 fours and a six to set up Renegades towards a healthy total. Shaun Marsh got the Man of the Match for his winning knock.
